Pedagogical Talking Circles: Decolonizing Education through Relational Indigenous Frameworks

This article focuses on pedagogical talking circles as a practice of decolonizing and Indigenizing education. Based upon Canada’s Truth Reconciliation Commission’s (TRC) Calls to Action the United Nations Declaration Rights Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP), non-Indigenous educators have responsibility, while an opportunity, transform normative colonial institutional knowledge structures practices. Pedagogical are particularly useful in providing supported spaces for participants/students engage reciprocal relational learning. The theories outlined this utilize three main methodological approaches: situated relatedness, respectful listening, reflective witnessing. these underlying approaches, speaks necessity education (K-12 post-secondary).
